GRILLSTAGE

About GrillStage

What GrillStage Is

GrillStage is a single-purpose site built around six grilling and barbecue calculators — the numbers that come up every time someone fires up a grill or starts a smoke: how long to cook, how long to smoke, how much charcoal to light, how much meat to buy, and how to mix a brine or a marinade. Around those tools sit a blog of grilling and BBQ articles, a set of longer guides, and a small Grilling & BBQ Museum built from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons material.

What It Isn’t

GrillStage is not a barbecue competition circuit, a grill or smoker manufacturer, a food-safety authority, or a certification body, and it isn’t affiliated with any grill brand, smoker brand, the USDA, or any barbecue association its guides or museum happen to mention. There is no test kitchen or in-house culinary team behind this site — it’s a small, independently run reference built and maintained by people who grill and smoke at home.

Independent and Ad-Supported

This site runs on display advertising, which is how the tools and guides stay free with no account or sign-up required. Ads pay for hosting and the time spent building and maintaining the calculators; they don’t influence what a tool calculates or what a guide says. Every calculator runs in your browser — the figures you type in aren’t collected or sold.

Estimates, Not Advice

Every result on GrillStage — grilling time, smoking time, charcoal load, meat quantity, brine ratio, marinade volume — is an estimate built from established grilling and barbecue practice, not a guarantee and not professional food-safety advice. Actual cook times depend on your specific grill or smoker, the weather, the exact cut, and how you like your food done. Always finish a cook by checking internal temperature with a meat thermometer and follow safe food-handling practice, regardless of what a calculator here says.

The Tools

The Grilling Time Calculator estimates minutes per side and total time for steak, burgers, chicken, pork chops, fish, and vegetables from the cut, its thickness, and your target doneness. The Smoking Time Calculator plans a low-and-slow smoke for brisket, pork shoulder, ribs, whole chicken, or turkey at 225°F, with a suggested rest before slicing. The Charcoal Calculatorworks out a starting briquette load and a per-hour top-up from your grill’s diameter, target heat, and cook time. The Meat Per Person Calculator figures out how much to buy for a cookout from guest count, cut, and appetite, adjusted for shrinkage and bone. The Brine Calculator mixes a wet brine from meat weight and salt strength, with water, salt, optional sugar, and a suggested brining time. The Marinade Calculator scales a marinade to the meat by cups per pound so every piece is coated with none left over.

Guides and the Museum

Past the calculators, the blog and guidescover the same ground in longer form — cook times, smoking technique, charcoal and fire management, cuts and portions, brines, rubs, and sauces. The Grilling & BBQ Museumis a separate, browsable history of the grills and smokers that make the fire, the barbecue meats from brisket to ribs, the fuel and techniques behind charcoal and smoke, and the tools and classic sides that go with them — every entry, image, and fact sourced from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons rather than written in-house.
